POSITION OVERVIEW:

Staff counsel office for Hanover Insurance seeking an experience Legal Secretary for a two-month contract to support attorney with Massachusetts litigation.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

• Review new assignments and assesses immediate action required.

• Maintain attorney calendar.

• Manage calendar and assist in meeting deadlines.

• Draft and file answers to complaints.

• Send out initial discovery package to plaintiffs and codefendants including interrogatories, request for production and notices of depositions.

• Draft requests for plaintiff’s medical records and coordinate processing of requests with record vendor

• Communicate with counsel for other parties.

• Communicate with various vendors, i.e., record vendor, court reporter, sheriff.

• Track completion of discovery

• Perform as an alter-ego to the attorney, answering routine inquiries from claims and the client.


WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:

• Typically has a minimum of 3-5 years related experience.

• Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance defense preferred.

• Strong research skills and familiarity with the Internet and other sources for investigative purposes.

• Strong organizational skills / Ability to independently prioritize tasks and multi-task.

• Effective communication skills, written and verbal.

• Works well with others and establishes sound working relationships.

• Works with minimum supervision, conferring with superior on unusual matters.

• Familiarity with court system and civil procedure in Massachusetts, including electronic court filing (Rhode Island a plus).

• Familiarity with tort and insurance practice and laws preferred.

• Computer (MS Office) and word processing proficiency.
