Position Summary

The Security Guard provides participants with supportive assistance to maintain a safe, welcoming, and clean environment. Prior security experience is strongly desired. Two (2) years of experience working in the human services field is preferred, particularly in a residential facility serving individuals experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, and/or mental health challenges, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct facility checks before assuming responsibility and note deficiencies during shift changes. Monitor electronic surveillance equipment used on the premises. Alert prior shifts to correct or complete duties before assuming responsibility for the facility. Document noteworthy information on shift reports and ensure necessary supplies are available. Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, including property damage, theft, unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other individuals to safeguard the premises. Immediately inform supervisors of unusual incidents involving residents, staff, or the facility and complete required documentation. Participate in monitoring resident activities, including bedroom, locker, and body searches using metal detectors upon facility entry. Review prior shift incident reports and communication logbooks before beginning duties. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or management.

QualificationsEducation and Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED with acceptable training and experience in homeless shelter operations, clean and sober programs, outreach, or addiction services. Participation in staff meetings, department meetings, and trainings as directed. Criminal and Child Abuse clearances required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. Strong verbal and written communication skills and willingness to assist as needed.

Experience

One (1) year of experience working in a residential facility serving individuals experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, and/or mental health challenges, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
