Job Summary:
A Medical Surgical Nurse (MS) is sought for a unit located in Hastings, Nebraska. This position involves providing care to patients with common diagnoses such as dementia, post surgical conditions, falls, influenza, pneumonia, failure to thrive, cancer, and COVID-19. The role requires working day shifts with a schedule of 12 hours per shift, accommodating a minimum of 36 hours per week. The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of clinical experience and possess current BLS certification.

- Required Qualifications: BLS certification; minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; valid nursing license; high school diploma or GED; ability to work days; Nebraska nursing license or eligible for licensure in Nebraska
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with chest tubes, pain management, TPN, CBI, wound care; charge nurse experience is a plus but not required
- Unit Details:
- Department: Medical Surgical
- Bed Capacity: 30 private rooms
- Typical census: 20 patients
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4-6
- Patient Diagnoses/Types: Dementia, post surgical, falls, influenza, pneumonia, failure to thrive, cancer, COVID-19
- Nurse Aids: 2-3 per shift
- RT Equipment: CPAP with RT management available
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs: Present on the floor, monitor techs read data
- Float Rotation: May float to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) for overflow or very low acuity patients
- Orientation: Two days of nursing department orientation plus one day on the floor
- Dress Code: Any solid color, no pattern or design
- Charting System: EPIC
- Shift & Scheduling:
- 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- No self-scheduling; work arranged in block scheduling to accommodate travel needs
- Coverage to fill schedule gaps with travel staff
- Weekend & Holiday Requirements:
- Every 3rd weekend, flexibility needed
- Every 3rd holiday, specifically during winter, with some expectation to work
- Additional Information:
- No call or standby requirements unless volunteer or approved time off
- No floating requirements beyond those specified
- Scrub color: Any solid color
